The 5th issue of Costume Finland will be out on Wednesday and here’s a little sneak peek of what’s in the magazine this time! For the new issue, I interviewed a famous Finnish talk show host and fashion icon Maria Veitola and we went shopping to concept store My o My, which is one of the best high fashion stores in Helsinki. Here’s a small list of 5 things that I came to know about Maria Veitola during the prosess of making this article for Costume.

1. Maria Veitola recently became a mother and the baby was on the set of our photoshoot with a trainee of Evita Magazine (also a Bonnier magazine, like Costume). The baby boy obviously knows that the animal trend is big this season, because he was wearing the cutest tiger jumpsuit I’ve ever seen! He clearly has a great sense of style: Like mother, like son!

2. In the early 90’s, before her successful TV career, Maria Veitola was a young University student and was living near the border of Helsinki in a small student flat, where – in her own words – ”you couldn’t even watch MTV, which was really important TV channel at that time”. Maria suggested to her hairdresser friend a deal: she would clean his apartment in central Helsinki every now and then if he would cut her hair for free. This was a really good deal for the trendsetter-to-be, because she got all the latest hair trends for free and in her hairdresser friend’s apartment she could watch MTV at the side of cleaning and ”see aMadonna’s latest music videos fashion tricks”.

3. Maria has been my idol for ages: I used to watch her MARIA! -talk show from Channel 4 when I was in high school and on the show she always had the most extravagant fashion pieces on, which made a great impact on me. I was more nervous about this interview than any other celebrity interview I have done so far, because she is such a huge inspiration for me, but as it turned out, I had none to worry: Maria was super down to earth and nice and we could have talked for hours!

4. Jenny Jansson, one of the top make-up artists in Finland, did Maria’s make-up for this Costume photoshoot and Maria fell in love with the bright pink lipstick that Jenny Jansson had brought with her, so we decided to go for the bold lips and leave the make up very natural from all the other areas. ”It’s all about the bold lips,” Jansson said.

5. Maria shared her hair wisdom: ”If you wake up in the morning and you wonder weather you should or shouldn’t wash your hair, the answer is simple: abso-f*cking-lutely! If you even have  to think about it, your hair is too dirty.”

1. Maria Veitolasta tuli äskettäin äiti ja hänen pieni poikansa oli kuvauspaikalla Evita-lehden harjoittelijan hyvässä hoivassa. Vauva-Veitola selvästi tietää, että eläinkuosit on yksi kevään kuumimmista trendeistä, sillä hänellä oli päällään söpöin tiikeripotkupuku jonka olen ikinä nähnyt! Äitinsä poika, tuo minikokoinen tyyliniekka-Veitola!
